Manitoba Premier-designate Stresses Unity, Culture Change After Election Win

Darpan News Desk, 27 Apr, 2016 11:16 AM
WINNIPEG — Manitoba's incoming premier stressed unity and the economy as he addressed his large Progressive Conservative caucus for the first time since winning last week's election.

Brian Pallister told his 39 fellow Tories they must focus on reducing waste, finding innovative ideas and boosting the economy to make what he called a Manitoba miracle within eight years.

Pallister also said the Tories ran a strong campaign because they were unified and consistent in their message.

He suggested unity is needed to replace what he called the dysfunction of the outgoing NDP government.

The remark was a reference to an internal NDP revolt that almost toppled Premier Greg Selinger last year.

With 40 of 57 legislature seats, the new Tory caucus is the largest in a century.

Pallister is to announce his cabinet and be sworn in as premier on Tuesday.
