Manitoba has declared a provincial state of emergency and has also asked the Canadian Armed Forces to assist in fighting the surge of floodwater coming from Saskatchewan.
The province has told residents to prepare themselves for the same record flooding that was witnessed in 2011, plus one foot. The flooding in 2011 had cost the province $1 billion.
Premier Greg Selinger told media that he spoken to Prime Minister Stephen Harper and has informed him about the prevailing situation.
Further Selinger also stated that military assistance is required to reinforce and raise dikes due to the increased flooding.
