The Canadian Press, 11 Mar, 2016 12:27 PM
  • Man, Woman Charged In Connection With Threat Investigation At Halifax Airport
HALIFAX — Police in Halifax have charged a man and a woman in connection with a threat investigation involving the Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

Police say they received third-hand information early Thursday about a potential threat involving a person with connections to the airport, and increased the police presence at the airport as a result.

At 9 a.m. Thursday, police say 48-year-old Derek Russell Strum was arrested at an apartment building in Dartmouth, N.S., where officers carried out a search warrant and allegedly found ammunition and magazines for firearms.

Another search warrant at a home in Nine Mile River, N.S., turned up a locked gun case that police say is believed to contain a firearm.

Later in the day, police arrested 46-year-old Diana Lynn Richard of Dartmouth, who they say is known to Strum.

Strum and Richard are each facing four counts of possession of a prohibited device in relation to four over-capacity cartridge rifle magazines.
