Man With A Knife Terrifies Woman On SkyTrain, Arrested In Surrey

The Canadian Press, 05 Jun, 2015 11:18 AM
SURREY, B.C. — Transit Police say a 21-year-old knife-wielding man accused of threatening and stalking a woman on a SkyTrain faces several charges in a Surrey, B.C., court.

Police say Ascon Carias was arrested Tuesday and was on probation following a conviction last December for two counts of assault with a weapon.

Police say a woman boarded a train at Waterfront Station and noticed a man with blood on one hand staring at her, then following and blocking her as she tried to exit at a station in New Westminster.

Other passengers used safety alarms on the train and texted police before the traumatized woman and the suspect got off the train at Scott Road Station.

Police say the man tried unsuccessfully to stop a bus from leaving and then threw a bottle of liquor in the air before three passengers tackled him and waited for police.

Carias was expected to appear in provincial court on Friday to face charges of forcible confinement, weapons-related charges and breach of probation.
