Man Who Tried To Save Driver From Burning Tanker On Montreal Highway Released From Hospital

The Canadian Press, 10 Aug, 2016 01:01 PM
  • Man Who Tried To Save Driver From Burning Tanker On Montreal Highway Released From Hospital
MONTREAL — The driver who tried to rescue a man trapped in a burning tanker truck on a Montreal highway has been released from hospital.

Carol Bujold cut his hand Tuesday afternoon trying to pry open the door of the vehicle as flames began engulfing the tanker.

Bujold's boss, Jean Carriere, says his employee's injuries are not serious but the 50-year-old is still suffering from psychological trauma related to the collision and fire.

Carriere said in an interview today Bujold was driving a truck loaded with cement when he was involved in the collision on Montreal's Highway 40, which led to a massive fire and the death of the tanker driver.

Carriere said Bujold told him the driver was stuck in his seat and signalled for help as the fire started.

Bujold had the instinct to grab a crowbar and try to get the driver out but couldn't and was forced to flee when the flames became too intense.

Six people in all were injured in the collision and fire.
