Man Wanted on Alberta Kidnapping Charges Arrested While Driving off B.C. Ferry

The Canadian Press , 07 Aug, 2014 11:18 PM
NANAIMO, B.C. - A 48-year-old man wanted on several kidnapping charges in Alberta is under arrest after driving off a B.C. Ferry.

David Rogerson was arrested Wednesday night at the Departure Bay ferry terminal in Nanaimo, in Vancouver Island.

Police received reports Rogerson boarded the ferry while driving a Black Jeep Cherokee with Alberta plates.

Officers located Rogerson after BC Ferries staff confirmed Rogerson and his vehicle were on board.

Const. Gary O'Brien with Nanaimo RCMP says plain clothes officers then boarded the ferry as it docked at the terminal, and police blocked the suspect's vehicle.

Sgt. Sorab Rupa says officers minimized the risk to the public and arrested the man without disrupting other riders.

RCMP issued a Canada-wide warrant for Rogerson's arrest after a woman was abducted in a northwestern Alberta town.

Mounties say a man with a gun took a woman from a business in Fox Creek, Alberta, on Monday, but she managed to escape.

Officers say the pair knew each other through business dealings.

Rogerson, who is 49 and from British Columbia, faces numerous charges that include kidnapping with a firearm and unlawful confinement.
