Man sentenced for multiple break-ins over a year

Police say a 44-year-old man has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for committing multiple break-ins in a six-month period between 2022 and 2023.

Burnaby R-C-M-P say the man had been targetting high-end homes under construction.

The man was arrested in February 2023 after police found stolen property including stoves, fridges, toilets and plumbing fixtures, some worth as much as 25-thousand-dollars individually.

Police say the man is currently serving another sentence for an unrelated offence, and the new jail term will be served after the previous sentence is complete.

A new report from Deloitte Canada suggests the economy's near-term struggles will ease next year as the Bank of Canada begins cutting its key lending rate. The report estimates GDP will rise one per cent this year and 0.9 per cent next year. Deloitte Canada had earlier predicted GDP would contract 0.9 per cent in 2023.

Delta police say a property valued at more than two-million-dollars has been seized in relation to a large-scale drug investigation. Police say the residence in Delta was transferred to the Province of B-C after the Supreme Court deemed the home as "offence-related property."
