 Surrey RCMP is advising the public of an incident where a young man was located in Hawthorne park with injuries and taken to hospital.

On February 16, 2022 at 9:47 a.m., Surrey RCMP received a call from BC Ambulance Services that they were responding to a call of an unresponsive man at Hawthorne park located in the 10500-block of 144 Street. RCMP frontline officer attended the scene to assist Emergency Health Services (EHS).

A young man with injuries was located in the park, assessed by EHS and transported to hospital. A medical examination at the hospital revealed a gunshot wound. The victim, who is known to police, remains in hospital in serious condition.

Surrey RCMP officers conducted a search of the area surrounding where the male was located. The Integrated Police Dog Service and Air 1 were utilized; however, the scene of shooting has not been confirmed. 

The Investigation is ongoing and being handled by Surrey RCMP General Investigations Unit. Officers will be in the area of Hawthorne Park collecting CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses.
