NANAIMO, B.C. - Mounties on Vancouver Island say they're investigating a collision between a vehicle and a 30-year-old pedestrian who died of his inquiries.
A statement from Nanaimo RCMP says an on-duty officer witnessed the collision around 9:30 p.m. Monday and administered first aid until Emergency Health Services personnel arrived to take the pedestrian to hospital, where he later died.
Police say witnesses told investigators they saw him attempting to walk across the intersection of Norwell Drive and Highway 19A when he was struck.
They say the southbound traffic appeared to be proceeding on a green light.
The driver of the vehicle, a man in his early 20s, stopped and is co-operating with police.
The Mounties say alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor on the part of the driver, whose car has been seized and will undergo a mechanical inspection.
