Man Dies After Being Rescued From Sinking Fishing Boat Off B.C. Coast

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 11 Apr, 2018 02:07 PM
VANCOUVER — A man has died after being rescued from a fishing vessel off British Columbia's north coast.

Susan Williams of the Canadian Coast Guard says the fishing vessel Western Commander issued a mayday call Monday saying it was taking on water.

She says three coast guard vessels and the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue from Prince Rupert responded to the call.

All three crew members were rescued form the vessel, but a 70-year-old man needed medical attention and the coroner's service says he has since died.

    The 22-metre ship has sunk.

Williams says a coast guard environmental response crew is monitoring for potential pollution from the sunken vessel.
