Man Charged In Three Deaths, Including A Father And Daughter, To Appear In Court

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 13 Jun, 2016 01:05 PM
LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — A trial date is expected to be set in Lethbridge today for a southern Alberta man accused of killing three people including a father and his daughter.

Derek Saretzky was originally charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Terry Blanchette and his two-year-old daughter Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette last September.

Blanchette was found in his home near Blairmore, but his daughter was missing, so police issued an Amber Alert.

The child's body was found in a rural area two days later.

In April, police added a third first-degree murder charge in the slaying of Hanna Meketech, whose death occurred five days before the others.

Alberta Justice says the Crown plans to proceed on the charges against Saretzky by direct indictment, meaning there would be no preliminary hearing.
