Man Charged After Alleged Incident At Calgary Campaign Event

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 10 Oct, 2015 01:01 PM
CALGARY — A 66-year-old suspect faces charges of uttering threats and wearing a disguise with intent after a man allegedly threatened a custodian at a Calgary club during a federal election candidate forum earlier this week.

Police allege a man entered the Tuscany Club with his face concealed by a Confederate flag.

They say the building’s custodians approached the man and questioned his disguise, and the man allegedly threatened them before leaving the building.

Nirmala Naidoo, a former broadcast journalist who is the Liberal candidate for Calgary Rocky Ridge, says police told her the man said he needed to make a strong point and "somebody is going to get hurt."

She says the club was immediately shut down and police were called.

Officers say they arrested the suspect, Wayne Fillo, in the parking lot and charged him.
