Man Arrested Following Assault At Health Centre In Kelowna, B.C.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 05 Oct, 2016 10:59 AM
KELOWNA, B.C. — RCMP say a man is in custody following an alleged assault against an employee and a Mountie at a community health centre in Kelowna, B.C.

Const. Jesse O'Donaghey says officers responded to a call about a belligerent man and when a Mountie was also attacked, he responded by trying to use his baton.

O'Donaghey says the suspect grabbed the weapon and used it to smash several windows at the centre.

He says a first attempt to subdue the man with a Taser was unsuccessful, but officers were able to him into custody after a second attempt.

Acting Supt. Insp. Brent Mundle says he's grateful that neither the health centre employee nor the responding officers were injured while dealing with what he called a violent and dynamic situation.

The 44-year-old suspect faces several potential charges, and police are asking any witnesses to contact police.
