Man Apologizes For Taping His Female Colleagues At Newfoundland Gym

The Canadian Press, 10 May, 2018 01:42 PM
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A gym employee who secretly recorded female colleagues while they changed apologized to the victims Thursday.

Alex Seymour, 24, pleaded guilty to filming two women without their consent at the gym in St. John's, N.L.

One of the victims called police when she found an iPod under her desk that had been recording for 20 minutes.

They found voyeuristic photos on the device, including images of at least three of Seymour's female co-workers, and called police.

His lawyer, Ellen O'Gormon, called it a "crime of opportunity" at a sentencing hearing Thursday.

She said Seymour is a bright post-secondary student and is remorseful, and should receive a conditional discharge.

The Crown is seeking three to six months in jail when the judge hands down sentence on May 28.
