Look Out! Here Comes Spider-Mable: Edmonton's 6-Year-Old Pint-Sized Cancer Patient Lives Out Dream

The Canadian Press, 28 Sep, 2015 11:03 AM
EDMONTON — A six-year-old cancer patient from Edmonton is living out her dream as she travels around the city fighting crime as a pint-sized superhero.

Mable Tooke, known today as SpiderMable, is making the rounds trying to track down Edmonton Oilers captain Andrew Ference, who has been abducted by the villainous Mysterio.

Edmonton's mayor and police force have enlisted SpiderMable's help — part of a day-long, citywide scenario created by the Edmonton branch of the Children's Wish Foundation.

Mable was diagnosed with leukemia in 2013.

Her family says she began reading 1960s-era Spiderman comics during her treatment.

She took a liking to the character because she felt he was the closest superhero to a human being and because they both had radioactive blood, a side effect of cancer treatment.

The wish foundation says the elaborate event is easily the most complicated wish they've ever tried to fulfil.

It's similar to one that was done for Batkid, a five-year-old leukemia patient named Miles Scott, whose mission to save San Francisco in 2013 touched hearts around the world.
