Lockdown At Vancouver Island University After Man Spotted With Possible Gun

    NANAIMO, B.C. — Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, B.C., was briefly locked down this morning as police investigated a report of someone with a possible gun.
     
    RCMP Const. Gary O'Brien says a report came in around 10:30 a.m. of a man spotted with photography equipment and something in his back pocket that looked like a firearm.
     
    He says police were continuing their search until satisfied that they had a handle on the situation and would advise Vancouver Island University of their findings.
     
     

    Campus is all clear. Emergency has been lifted.

    About 11:15 a.m., Vancouver Island University posted on its website that the emergency condition had been cleared at the campus.
     
    It had posted an alert earlier calling for people to shelter in place until further notice, and police asked the public to stay away from the school.
     
    O'Brien says there are no reports of any people injured or in trouble.
