Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon says new legislation introduced today will reduce housing construction delays, delivering more homes for residents sooner.
He says that if Bill 44 is passed, local governments would need to shift their planning process to an "upfront framework."

It also means they would have to pre-zone land to meet their housing needs and reduce the use of rezoning processes that are currently in place.
This would mean amenity costs and agreements would be put together at the beginning of the project and not during the rezoning stage.
