Lawyer For Student Charged With First-degree Murder To Argue To Bail Review

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 10 May, 2016 11:45 AM
HALIFAX — The lawyer for a Dalhousie University medical student accused of murdering a fellow student is expected to argue in court today that his client should be granted a bail review.

Eugene Tan argued last month that a judge's decision last October to deny bail to William Sandeson should be reviewed.

Tan says some information provided to the judge last fall was revealed to be "unreliable" in a subsequent preliminary hearing.

All of the evidence before the courts is protected by a routine publication ban.

Tan filed a notice of his intention to seek a review, but says the original judge must first hear arguments on the merit of such an application.

Sandeson was charged with the first-degree murder of Taylor Samson on Aug. 20, 2015 and ordered to stand trial on March 29 following the preliminary hearing.
