WINNIPEG - A lawyer for a senior Manitoba judge facing removal over nude photographs of her posted on the Internet says the case should be thrown out because it revictimizes the victim.
Sheila Block, who represents Associate Chief Justice Lori Douglas, says it doesn't make sense to subject the judge to another lengthy tribunal.
Block told a panel of judges they shouldn't put Douglas through more trauma, because she was a victim of her husband, who has since died.
Jack King posted intimate photos of his wife online and showed them to a client to entice him to have sex with her.
A disciplinary panel struck by the Canadian Judicial Council is examining whether the photos undermine the justice system and whether Douglas failed to disclose their existence before she was appointed a judge in 2005.
Suzanne Cote, independent counsel to the inquiry panel, argues the case should be heard and decided on its merits.
