Late Night Burnaby Shooting, Car Crash Sends One To Hospital, Burnaby RCMP Investigating

Darpan News Desk, 06 Jan, 2020 06:29 PM

Burnaby RCMP’s Investigative Support Team is continuing to investigate a shooting that sent one man to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Sunday, January 5 at 10:15 p.m., Burnaby RCMP Frontline officers responded to the area of Willingdon Avenue and Burke Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg and a vehicle that had been shot at.

At this time, it appears as though the victim was in a Grey 2011 Suzuki Swift with two other men, driving Southbound on Willingdon Avenue when a white sedan pulled up beside the vehicle and started to shoot at them. The driver of the Suzuki Swift crashed the vehicle and the three occupants fled from the scene with the victim being quickly located by police. The other two men were also located and did not suffer any injuries. All three men are known to police.

It is believed that this shooting was targeted. It is unknown what direction the suspect vehicle, a white sedan fled in.

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed this incident taking place or have any information that could assist the investigation to please contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 or if you wish to remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Additionally, if you were driving in the area of Willingdon Avenue and Burke Street last night between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. and have dash cam video, please contact police.

To have something like this happen in our City, particularly a residential area is completely unacceptable, says Corporal Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP. We want to assure residents of our City that we are resourcing this investigation from units right across our detachment to thoroughly investigate this serious incident.
