Judicial Recount Ordered In Barrie, Ont., Riding After Narrow Election Win

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 27 Oct, 2015 12:02 PM
  • Judicial Recount Ordered In Barrie, Ont., Riding After Narrow Election Win
OTTAWA — Elections Canada says there will be a judicial recount in the Ontario riding of Barrie–Springwater–Oro-Medonte.

In the initial count Oct. 19, Conservative Alex Nuttall won by 108 votes over Liberal Brian Tamblyn.

The elections agency says the recount, which was requested by one of the candidates, will begin on Friday.

Judicial recounts are mandatory if the vote margin difference between the first and second-place candidates is less than one one-thousandth of the valid votes cast.

They can also be done at the request of a candidate if there are questions about miscounted or rejected ballots.

Another judicial recount was ordered earlier in the riding of Edmonton Mill Woods, where Liberal Amarjeet Sohi won by 79 votes over Conservative Tim Uppal.
