Jobless rate on the rise in Canada

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 03 Nov, 2023 12:46 PM
  • Jobless rate on the rise in Canada

Statistics Canada says unemployment continues to nudge upward across the country, rising to 5.7 per cent last month -- up two-tenths of a point since September.

The increase is the fourth in the last six months and comes despite the addition of 18-thousand jobs.

Economists warn that climbing unemployment is happening at the same time as high interest rates are cooling the economy.

Statistics Canada numbers show the jobless rate in B-C didn't budge last months from its 5.4 per cent setting recorded in September
