Jewelry Donated To B.C. Thrift Store Raising Funds For Youth Worth Thousands

The Canadian Press, 11 May, 2018 12:16 PM
TSAWWASSEN, B.C. — Police say someone who donated costume jewelry to a thrift store in Tsawwassen, B.C., might have given away more than they realized.

Delta police say a person working at the Delta Youth Support Link Thrift Store thought some of the jewelry donated around March 1 looked valuable.

They had it appraised and police say it turned out to be worth $23,000.

Store manager Josie Mae says they have previously received pricey jewelry, including a Rolex watch and a diamond ring.

But she didn't want to keep the jewelry at the store while waiting for someone to claim it so it was turned over to the police.

The store sells donated goods to raise money for grants and bursaries provided to students at seven high schools.

Delta police say anyone wanting to claim the jewelry should contact the department and provide a description.
