Jannik Hansen pulled from Canucks' lineup hours before game with Coyotes

    VANCOUVER — Jannik Hansen has been removed from the Vancouver Canucks lineup ahead of Monday's home game against the Arizona Coyotes.

    Hansen, who collapsed on the bench after taking a big hit during the second period of Saturday's Canucks win over the visiting Flames, was expected to suit up against Arizona, but the team decided that further medical examination was required.

    "In the process of reviewing Hansen's test results the Vancouver Canucks in consultation with specialists have determined that further evaluation is required before he is cleared to play," the team announced in a statement hours before game time.

    "Despite all tests being reported as normal, additional tests were ordered in the best interests of Hansen's health and safety."

    Hansen skated earlier Monday and spoke with the media, saying it was a scary incident but that he was thankful to the Canucks doctors, coaching and equipment staff for their quick response during the game. Hansen was helped back to the locker-room Saturday night and did not return in the game.

    "I lost my wind," Hansen told reporters. "It happens time to time. I wasn't able to catch it quick enough. I took a quick nap on the bench."

    Hansen has eight goals and five assists this season. He is expected to be replaced by forward Tom Sestito in the lineup. Sestito has played in only two games this season.
