Jailed Navy Spy Jeffrey Delisle Granted Full Parole: Federal Board

The Canadian Press, 08 Mar, 2019 11:53 PM
  • Jailed Navy Spy Jeffrey Delisle Granted Full Parole: Federal Board

HALIFAX — Convicted spy Jeffrey Delisle has been granted full parole.

An emailed statement from the Parole Board of Canada says it granted the former Canadian naval intelligence officer full parole on March 5.

The statement contains few other details, saying some information has been withheld under privacy provisions of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act.

Sentenced in 2013 to 20 years in prison, Delisle was granted day parole in August, with about one third of his sentence completed.

He started selling Western military secrets to Russia in 2007, but wasn't caught until 2011 when the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation tipped off the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.

Delisle pleaded guilty to regularly passing classified intelligence to Russia in exchange for cash.

The judge presiding over the case said at the time that Delisle would serve 18 years and five months behind bars because of time served.
