Investigation Underway Over Man's Death In Police Custody In Langley, B.C.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 23 Oct, 2019 08:11 PM

LANGLEY, BRITISH COLUMBIA, B.C. - RCMP say British Columbia's Independent Investigations Office has been called to examine an incident in Langley where a man died following an altercation with police.

Police say officers were responding to an abandoned 911 call early Wednesday when they found a man who appeared to be under the influence of a drug.

The RCMP says in a statement that a fight occurred as officers tried to call for paramedics and take the man into custody.

The statement says the man began to lose consciousness after being taken into custody.

Despite efforts by police, firefighters and paramedics, he died at the scene.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is a civilian agency that probes all cases of police-involved injury or death to determine if police actions or inactions may have been a factor.
