Interac e-transfer scams making the rounds in New Westminster

  • Interac e-transfer scams making the rounds in New Westminster

Police in New Westminster are warning the public about Interac e-transfer scams after a resident in the city was defrauded of three-thousand dollars.

They say victims of this type of scam often receive an email that prompts them to click a link and enter their banking details.

Police say that once the scammers have that information, they can gain access to the victim's account and withdraw large sums of money.

Sergeant Andrew Leaver says in a news release that police "strongly recommend" setting up auto-deposit, which bypasses the need to click on email links.

A spokesman for the provincial health officer says B.C. residents are encouraged to wait for the updated COVID vaccines if possible, but people can still get last season's shots if they need them.
