Indo-Canadian Snowboarder Gursharan Mundi Saved By North Shore Rescue On Mount Seymour

The Canadian Press, 30 Mar, 2016 09:42 AM
VANCOUVER — An eight-hour search for a missing snowboarder has ended happily on Vancouver's North Shore mountains.

Rescuers found the 26-year-old Gursharan Mundi at about 3:30 Wednesday morning on the east side of Mount Seymour, in North Vancouver.

Searchers say he was cold and wet but was given a hot drink and some dry clothes and was able to hike down the side of the mountain toward Indian Arm.

A Royal Canadian Marine search and rescue lifeboat picked him up on Brighton Beach and carried him the rest of the way to safety.

The unnamed man was reported overdue at about 7:30 Tuesday night and a short time later used his cellphone to call a relative in Seattle to confirm he was lost.

Rescuers believe the snowboarder may have unintentionally gone out of bounds when he confused a ski trail with a snowshoe trail. (CKNW)
