Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 25 Feb, 2019 06:17 PM

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. — A man has died in New Westminster, B.C., following a police-involved shooting.

A release from New Westminster police says it happened just before 10 p.m. Sunday.

Officers were called to a report of a suicidal man, possibly carrying a firearm, at the rear of a Walmart store in the Queensborough neighbourhood.

Shots were fired as officers arrived and the man died of his injuries.

The release does not state who fired the shots, but it says no officers or bystanders were hurt.

Sgt. Jeff Scott says the Independent Investigations Office, the body that investigates all cases in British Columbia of police-involved death or serious injury, has been notified and its members are on the case.
