Improved transit coming to 4 communities in a joint effort by the Province and the Feds

B-C Transit and the federal and provincial governments have combined funding of just over 90-million dollars to improve transit infrastructure to four communities.

The announcement by federal Infrastructure Minister Sean Fraser, B-C’s Transport Minister Rob Fleming and B-C Transit’s C-E-O Erinn Pinkerton will allow for preliminary work for a proposed new transit centre in Saanich.

Funding will build also three new transit exchanges in Kelowna and upgrade existing transit centres in Victoria and Langford to incorporate a maintenance training centre.

The federal and B-C government will each invest 36.5 million for the projects.

The government is putting $156 million over three years toward a new three-digit suicide-prevention hotline, Mental Health Minister Carolyn Bennett announced Monday. B.C. government announces new programs, police standards for sexual assault

Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth says survivors deserve to be treated fairly after going through trauma and shielded from further harm, and the new standards and programs will "empower" those people. The province says the funding for the new programs kicks in this month, while new policing standards coupling investigators with victims services workers will begin next year, applying to all B.C. police officers.
