Imprisoned Saudi Blogger Is In Hospital Following A Two-day Hunger Strike: Wife

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 13 Jun, 2016 01:37 PM
MONTREAL — The wife of imprisoned Saudi blogger Raif Badawi says her husband has been tranferred to a hospital following a two-day hunger strike.

Ensaf Haidar wrote on Twitter the strike lasted from Friday to Sunday.

Badawi was arrested in 2012 and later sentenced to 1,000 lashes and 10 years in jail for his criticism of Saudi clerics.

He received 50 of them in January 2015 during a public flogging but has not received any since then.

Badawi is not a Canadian citizen but Haidar and the couple's three children live in Sherbrooke, Que.

His sentence has drawn widespread international condemnation, and Amnesty International has called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to do more to free him.
