Impaired Driver At The Wheel Of Hit And Run That Critically Injured Boy In Langley, Police Say

Darpan News Desk, 17 Sep, 2019 10:20 PM

The 12 year-old boy injured in Friday’s collision remains in critical condition as investigators piece together the events leading up to and during the tragic event.

At approximately 3:10 p.m., an 18 year-old boy was struck by a dark blue Nissan Pathfinder in the 5600 block of 210A Street. The vehicle fled the scene and allegedly continued westbound on 56 Avenue. The 18 year old has been treated for his injuries and released from the hospital.

Police were called a second time just prior to 3:25 for a report of another hit and run where the 12 year-old was struck by what was believed to be the same Nissan Pathfinder in the 4900 block of 232nd Street. The boy was believed to be walking home from school.

The Pathfinder fled the scene and was seen to continue southbound on 232nd street after sustaining quite significant front end damage. Officers located the suspect vehicle and two occupants in the 3300 block of 232nd Street five minutes after the collision, as the male passenger was pushing the vehicle. The male in the vehicle, a 19 year old from Langley, MAY have also driven during the eve
nts of the day and samples of his breath were taken a long time after the last collision.

Both occupants of the vehicle were believed to be impaired by alcohol. Speed is also believed to be a factor in the collision.

The female, a 29 year old Langley woman, was read the breath demand and while she initially refused, she did provide samples later in the evening that exceeded the legal limit. She was released from custody after being served an Administrative Driving Prohibition.

ICARS (the Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Service) attended to assist with the investigation. 232nd Street remained closed to through traffic for almost all of Friday evening. Langley’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team will maintain conduct of this extremely complex investigation.

Investigators believe the Nissan Pathfinder travelled quite significantly around the Lower Mainland in advance of the Langley collisions. It is possible they drove through Aldergrove, Walnut Grove, Downtown Vancouver, North Vancouver and finally Surrey before returning to Langley and may have been involved in other collisions.

If you have ANY information that might assist police with investigations into the above collisions OR if you are aware of other collisions in neighbouring communities, you are asked to please call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.

Police would also request motorists to review dash cam video where available if they recall crossing paths with the dark blue Nissan Pathfinder during your travels on Friday.
