Images Of Child Sexual Abuse Lead To Arrest Charges In New Westminster

    On October 3rd 2016 the New Westminster Police Department Major Crime Unit arrested Qi Xie (Simon Xie) after completing an investigation regarding images of child sexual abuse.
     
    Major Crime Detectives began their investigation after receiving information from the RCMP Integrated Child Exploitation Unit of BC.
     
    After an extensive investigation, detectives requested a warrant for Qi Xie, who was subsequently arrested and charged with the following offences:
     
    1. 1 count of Possession of Child Pornography, contrary to section 163.1 (4) of the Criminal Code of Canada;
    2. 1 count of Distributing Child Pornography, contrary to section 163.1 (3) of the Criminal Code of Canada; and
    3. 1 count of Accessing Child Pornography, contrary to section 163.1 (4.1) of the Criminal Code of Canada;
     
    “We take reports such as these very seriously, and we’re thankful that it led to the safe arrest of Mr. Xie,” stated Media Relations Officer Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott. “We work tirelessly in our effort to keep every child safe, which is why we actively investigate these types of allegations.”
     
    Mr. Xie has since been released from custody on a Recognizance of Bail with several strict court ordered conditions, including the condition of not communicating or being alone with anyone under 16 years of age.
