  • IHIT investigating after burning body found in a Burnaby park overnight

Burnaby RCMP's homicide team has been investigating after finding a burning body in a park overnight.

The Burnaby Fire Dept has confirmed that they were called to Greentree Village Park for a bush and grass fire close to 1:50 a.m. on Thursday.

Burnaby RCMP later concluded the person had suspicious injuries and Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the case since.

The human remains were found close to a playground near the Deer Lake park area not too far way from BCIT's main campus.

The victim's identity still remains unknown.

IHIT Det. Lara Jansen told media "Investigators believe it's a woman, but due to the circumstances involved with the burning of the body that has not yet been confirmed".

Anyone who has any information regarding this incident is asked to call IHIT.
