Environment Canada says temperature records have been broken in some parts of British Columbia by hot weather that's expected to stick around through the weekend.
Nelson saw the temperature hit 38.2 Celsius yesterday, breaking a record set back in 1938.
Elsewhere, temperature records were set in McKenzie, Nakusp, Richmond and Smithers.
Heat warnings are in place for the Okanagan, Thompson and Boundary regions.
Adrian Dix says the $366.5-million construction project now starting at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake will increase the hospital's capacity and provide a modern working environment. Dix says the project will add 25 beds and a new emergency department, while expanding surgical, maternity, pharmacy and mental-health and substance-use treatment areas.
