Homicide team probes fatal shooting in Abbotsford

Darpan News Desk IHIT, 22 Mar, 2022 09:46 AM
  • Homicide team probes fatal shooting in Abbotsford
On March 21, 2022, at approximately 9:52 p.m., the Abbotsford Police Department received a report of a male shot in the lower level of a family home located in the 3500-block of Latimer Street, Abbotsford.

Abbotsford Police Department frontline officers and BC Emergency Health Services (EHS) attended and located a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite all efforts to revive the victim, he succumbed to his injuries.

IHIT is in the early stages of the investigation and our investigators are working tirelessly to complete priority tasks.  We are working closely with the Abbotsford Police Department and BC Coroners Service.

We are releasing the name of our victim to further our investigation. The victim is identified as 41-year-old Chad Colivas.

We want to speak to Mr. Colivas’ friends and associates in an effort to build a timeline of his activities in the days leading up to his death.

“We are in the infancy stages of our investigation; however, the early indications suggest that Mr. Colivas’ death is not associated to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict,” says IHIT spokesperson Detective Corporal Sukhi Dhesi. “These are complex files and we urge anyone with information to come forward to assist us in gathering answers for Mr. Colivas’ family.”

IHIT investigators are asking for any witnesses, dashcam or CCTV footage from the area of 3500-block of Latimer Street, Abbotsford from Monday, March 21, 2022 between 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.
