Homicide Investigators Seek Witnesses To Inmate's Death At Metro Vancouver Jail

The Canadian Press, 01 Mar, 2016 11:19 AM
VANCOUVER — The death of an inmate at a provincial jail in Metro Vancouver is being investigated as a homicide.

Sgt. Stephanie Ashton of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says officers responded to reports of a fight at the Fraser Regional Correctional Centre late Saturday afternoon.

A 27-year-old inmate was rushed to hospital but died a short time later.

IHIT members are working with staff at the Maple Ridge-area jail to determine what led up to the fight, and they believe there may be witnesses who can provide information.

The death was the second in three days at a correctional facility in the Vancouver area.

Thirty-year-old William Fisher died Thursday while awaiting transfer to prison after being sentenced to three years for his role in the 2011 Stanley Cup riot.
