HIV-positive Abbotsford Man Faces 9 New Charges For Allegedly Not Disclosing Status

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 08 Sep, 2017 05:42 PM
  • HIV-positive Abbotsford Man Faces 9 New Charges For Allegedly Not Disclosing Status
MISSION, B.C. — RCMP in the Fraser Valley say a Vancouver-area man has been charged with nine additional counts for allegedly having unprotected sex without disclosing his HIV status.

Mission RCMP issued a news release saying the charges against 47-year-old Brian Carlisle were laid after new complainants came forward.

The Abbotsford resident was charged in early August with three counts of aggravated sexual assault, one month after police said they received an allegation against him.

The initial investigation revealed Carlisle had an online presence on several social media and dating sites and RCMP said the case led them to Ontario, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Vermont, where he may have also lived.

In the latest update, RCMP say the new complainants spoke to police after learning three charges had been laid.

Sgt. Jeff Scott says other possible victims may still not know of the potential change to their medical status.

"(They) are encouraged to visit their family physician or primary care provider to receive the appropriate testing," he says in the news release.

When Carlisle was charged in August, RCMP said the medical status of someone facing criminal charges isn't typically released, but his case involved a public-health interest.
