Heroin Seizure At Airport Sparks B.C. Probe That Leads Police To Drugs And Guns

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 29 Jan, 2015 03:07 PM
VERNON, B.C. — Mounties say the seizure of heroin at Vancouver's airport has sparked an investigation that led to weapons and drug charges against a 31-year-old man from the Okanagan.

Vernon RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says the Canadian Border Services Agency intercepted a large quantity of heroin from Thailand at the airport Jan. 8.

He says border agents alerted police who obtained a warrant and searched a Vernon home on Jan. 13.

Molendyk says police seized four loaded handguns, more than $10,000 in cash and prescription and non-prescription drugs.

Ronald Learning is facing 17 charges related to weapons offences, possession of stolen property and breaches of court orders.

Molendyk says the police recently warned local drug users about overdoses and the city is safer now that illicit drugs have been taken off the streets. (CKFR, CHNL)
