Heavy Showers Could Drench Southern Interior Wildfires As Fire Threat Drops

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 02 Sep, 2015 12:30 PM
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Cooler conditions are taming wildfires across British Columbia.

B.C. Wildfire Service information officer Ryan Turcot says three new fires broke out Tuesday, but the number of active fires has fallen to 151.

Turcot says that count could fall even further if current weather forecasts are correct.

He says the parched areas of the southern Interior and Boundary, along the U.S. border, could see heavy showers by Sunday, but he warns those predictions may change.

Just under 1,800 blazes have burned almost 3,000-square kilometres of bush since the wildfire season began in April.

Turcot says the cost of the fighting the fires has reached $258-million. (CHNL)
