Health officials in London, Ont., are warning patrons of a home-based tattoo shop to get tested for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.
The Middlesex-London Health Unit says inspectors were sent to a residence following a tip and found an unlicensed tattoo shop.
The health unit says the risk of contracting the blood-borne diseases is low, but recommends those who went to the tattoo shop to consult with their doctor about the need for testing.
And it says clients are urged to take steps to prevent the spread of infectious diseases — such as using condoms and not sharing razors or needles — until they receive the results of their blood testing.
The Health Unit says it inspects licensed tattoo and body piercing businesses at least once a year.
