Health Canada Says Shoppers Drug Mart Recalling Some Birth Control Pills

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 08 Apr, 2015 01:57 PM
EDMONTON — Health Canada says Shoppers Drug Mart is recalling a batch of birth control pills sold to consumers in Western Canada that were past their expiry date.

The recall affects Alesse 21 pills that were sold in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba between March 16 and April 1.

Health Canada says consumers should check for lot number G73720 and return the medication to the pharmacy.

It also recommends that women should speak to their physician if they have taken the pills and should use another form of birth control until they get new ones.

Health Canada also wants consumers to report what it calls any "adverse events".

The federal department says it is monitoring the recall and corrective actions being taken by Shoppers Drug Mart.

The company has said it dispensed expired pills to about 100 women in Western Canada.
