  • Harper Prepares Final Farewell To Party Ahead Of Plans To Step Down As MP
OTTAWA — Former prime minister Stephen Harper is preparing to step down as a member of Parliament.

Harper resigned as Conservative leader after losing the election last fall, but stayed on as MP for his Calgary riding.

Sources confirm those days are coming to an end as he prepares to take an active role in promoting foreign policy causes, including advocacy for Israel and maternal, child and newborn health.

He's also expected to join corporate boards.

Harper has kept a low profile in the House of Commons since Parliament resumed with a Liberal government.

He'll be making what's likely to be his final public speech to the Conservative party at their convention in Vancouver on Thursday.
