Harper and Wynne set for first meeting in more than a year

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 05 Jan, 2015 12:12 PM

TORONTO — Prime Minister Stephen Harper is set to meet with Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne today, marking their first face-to-face talk in more than a year.

The premier's office says the two politicians will meet at 6:15 p.m. in Toronto.

Their last meeting was on Dec. 5, 2013, and Wynne has since embarked on a public campaign urging Harper to sit down with her.

Harper was in Toronto last month and met with newly elected Toronto Mayor John Tory, but not Wynne.

The Liberal premier and the Conservative prime minister have publicly taken jabs at each other over pension plans, the provincial deficit and infrastructure spending.

Wynne often invoked Harper criticisms on those topics during the spring election that saw her win a majority government.
