Gurkamal Chhina, 29, And Davin Kooner, 19, Charged Following A Break And Enter Into A South Surrey Residence

Darpan News Desk, 29 Aug, 2019 06:56 PM

Two men have been arrested and charged following a break and enter into a residence in the South Surrey area earlier this month.

On August 10, 2019, at 5:30 am, police responded to a report of a possible break and enter in progress at a residence in the 13200-block of Woodcrest Drive. Upon arrival, police observed two men with bandanas covering their faces inside the residence. The two men attempted to flee but were arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

Two men from Surrey, Davin Kooner, 19, and Gurkamal Chhina, 29, are now facing charges including Break and Enter, Disguising Face with Intent to Commit an Offence, and Use of an Imitation Firearm to Commit an Offence. Both men are known to police.

Although breaking and entering is considered a property crime, the impact on victims can be significant. says Inspector Cliff Chastellaine, Major Crime Senior Investigator. In this incident our Frontline Officers were able to quickly arrest two suspects which we hope will bring some closure to those who were impacted.

Overall property crime decreased by 3% in the second quarter of 2019, continuing the downward trend in property crime statistics Surrey has seen for the past four years. However, home owners may consider the following tips to protect their property:

    • Install exterior lights with motion sensor activation

    • Have interior lights on a timer while you’re away from home

    • Install a good quality CCTV system

    • Join their local Block Watch program

Information from the public continues to play an important role in keeping Surrey Safe, anyone with information about criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or go to www.solvecrime.ca.
