Gun, Drugs Recovered After Dramatic Incident At Surrey Border Crossing

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 07 Jul, 2016 10:13 AM
SURREY, B.C. — Police say a firearm related to an incident at a border crossing in Surrey, B.C., has been recovered.

The RCMP received reports Tuesday afternoon that a vehicle failed to stop while heading into Canada from the U.S. at the Pacific Highway crossing.

Police followed the vehicle into south Surrey until it turned and headed back toward the same border crossing.

The Canadian Border Services Agency said drugs were seized from a vehicle driven by U.S. resident Kashon Nathaniel Kohler, 32, and the RCMP confirmed Wednesday that a gun believed to have been involved in the incident has also been recovered.

Kohler was taken to Bellingham, Wash., where he is facing a number of charges, including possession of controlled substances, resisting arrest and obstructing law enforcement.

The RCMP are leading an investigation into what happened, with help from the Canada Border Services agency and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Items were also tossed out of the suspect vehicle during the pursuit, according to the RCMP, and a stretch of 192nd Street in Surrey was temporarily closed so officers and police dogs could search for evidence.
