Group Of Hikers Okay After Unprepared Trek Into North Vancouver Backcountry

The Canadian Press, 22 Feb, 2016 11:12 AM
VANCOUVER — A group of hikers is okay after trekking into a closed area of Vancouver's North Shore mountains on Sunday and becoming stranded.

North Shore Rescue members set out Sunday evening to find the seven and lead them to safety.

The hikers were brought out of the Hanes Valley, northeast of Grouse Mountain, just before midnight.

Rescue spokesman Mike Danks says the seven were ill-prepared for the steep and snowy terrain.

He says they intentionally ignored closed signs to enter the demanding Hanes Valley trail, which is considered a difficult hike, even during the summer.
