Grey Seal Pup Hit By Vehicle In Nova Scotia, Being Treated For Injuries

The Canadian Press, 11 Feb, 2016 11:00 AM
SEAFORTH, N.S. — A grey seal pup that was hit by a vehicle on a Nova Scotia road is being treated for serious injuries at a wildlife centre.

The injured seal arrived at Hope for Wildlife in Seaforth early Thursday afternoon after spending the night in a nearby emergency clinic.

The facility's operator, Hope Swinimer, says the marine mammal was found on a road in Pictou County by an RCMP officer late Wednesday.

Swinimer says the 20-day-old seal pup, tentatively named Sammy, has an injured pelvis and is underweight.

She says if he survives, he'll stay at Hope for Wildlife until he's fully rehabilitated — roughly four to five months.

The grey seal pup with dark spots was given water and was resting in a tub at the facility Thursday afternoon amongst fleece blankets.
