Grandparent scam in Kelowna

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 05 Mar, 2024 12:45 PM
  • Grandparent scam in Kelowna

Kelowna RCMP say they are looking for a woman who's involved in a recent scam targeting the elderly.

Police say the suspect reportedly took money from an elderly woman after someone pretending to be an officer called the victim about her grandson being arrested and needing to pay a bond.

The scammers then called a second time to try to secure more money, but a bank employee who recognized the scam stopped the victim while she tried to withdraw the funds.

The grandparent scams have been prevalent in B-C this year, with Port Moody police saying last month that three seniors were targeted on the same day.
