Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 12 Dec, 2016 11:37 AM
NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. — Police say a nine-year-old Ontario girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert has been found safe and her mother has been arrested.

Niagara regional police say they found Layla Sabry and her mother, Allana Haist, in Hamilton early Monday morning.

They say the girl has been returned to her grandparents and is doing well.

The two were last seen on Dec. 1 around 6 p.m. in Welland, Ont., and an Amber Alert was issued the next day.

Niagara regional police say the girl is at the centre of a custody battle and under a court order to be returned to her father, Mohamed Abdel-Mottaleb, an Egyptian citizen.

Police say Haist has been charged with abduction in contravention of a custody order and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
